Capital one bank Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback
Capital One Financial Corporation is an American bank holding company specializing in credit cards, auto loans, banking, and savings accounts, headquartered in McLean, Virginia with operations primarily in the United States. It is on the list of largest banks in the United States and has developed a reputation for being a technology focused bank.
The bank has 755 branches including 30 café style locations and 2,000 ATMs. It is ranked 98th on the Fortune 500, 17th on Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For list, and conducts business in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The company helped pioneer the mass marketing of credit cards in the 1990s. In 2016, it was the 5th largest credit card issuer by purchase volume, after American Express, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Citigroup.
Capital One refuses to accept overseas phone numbers as part of user profiles. They recently mandated a two-factor authentication requirement that only allows US phone numbers as the second factor. So if you're a US service member stationed overseas, with a phone number local to the country you are stationed in, you are unable to establish a second factor, and therefor can't access your account online. After 40 minutes of conversation with a service rep and then a supervisor account service rep, a USA service member was politely informed that "sorry, you and every other service member or American living overseas without a US phone number are just out of luck." Capital One can tell from the calls from overseas phones that are charged overseas rates to see that the service persons have to manage accounts, check charges, make payments...This is not 1970!
Business Analyst (Former Employee) says"I had worked here for 1 month and I was terminated for pretty much the most minor infraction. Toxic work environment in which you really feel stressed by risk of termination. Jobs require high college degrees even though the role has nothing to do with them."
Customer Service (Current Employee) says"The management there sucks. They are very passive aggressive to their employees! The only way to move up in the company is if you’re cool with the higher ups. I felt so disrespected and belittled there. Pay is ok. But nothing to kill yourself for.Everything else"
Collections Representative (Former Employee) says"This place is the worst place to work especially if you get the job through a temp service. I wouldn’t recommend this place to a homeless man needing a job NoneNone"
Universal Banker (Former Employee) says"Managers treat employees poorly and HR does nothing about it. The higher ups don’t even care, they are only there for the big paycheck. Benefits are good but work environment is toxic."
Senior Operations Coordinator (Former Employee) says"I worked here for 2 years. My manager was horrible, gossiping, and vindictive. I reported him to HR for breaking a ton of work place conduct. I reported him only to HR but somehow my boss heard and fired me due to a technicality. I followed what another unit manager suggested and got fired because I followed her directions. When I went to HR to get them to overturn it, it turns out my boss lied about why I was fired. About 1 year later my boss was fired for everything I reported him for. I feel like capital one is a good place if you like gossip and being treated like garbage. HR also doesn’t take anonymous reporting seriously"
QA MANAGER (Former Employee) says"This company is nothing you can depend on they will lay off then rehires, No loyalty to there employees. It’s about all who you know not your job performance. Upper management will get an email to lay so many people off and they look for reasons to let you go. I had 15 years in got a call was laid off. If they don’t like you bye bye, Money okNot loyal"
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) says"You don’t have to have proof of a behavioral issue with this company to be fired/terminated. Anyone whose in favor with the higher-ups that don’t like you can have you fired with no valid proof of anything. It feels like a high school working here. Popularity being the only thing to secure your job here.No ProsNo professionalism."
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) says"Horrible!!! Extremely high stress. Must be married to the job. Expected to be working 24/7. Literally on call during nights and weekends, which doesn’t go well with a family and life outside of work. Low pay for those hours and conditions. “Diverse” is code for full of LGBT and Asian Indian foreigners on work visas. Active Indian caste system. My boss told me that women shouldn’t speak unless spoken to.Cafeteria, Gym, Medical on siteAbusive Culture, high stress, non-American"
Back office (Former Employee) says"I was a long time employee who was treated horribly....over my tenure there, I had a manager who, after the fact, demanded I come into work even when I was sick and had doctor's orders to stay home. Another one who, upon when I learned that a relative had passed away while I was at work, gave no sympathy and was more concerned about my timesheet being filled out right BEFORE I left for the day (she berated me when I begged her to finish it when I got back-I could have but she refused). And the mistreatment mentioned above doesn't just apply to upper management...some of my teammates were just as bad. I got yelled at by a coworker when I asked for help. Management saw it and did nothing. When i asked another coworker/lead for help on a process that I had missed the training for (due to a death in the family), she flat out refused and chastised me for not knowing what to do (of course, management looked the other way-even tho they were aware this lead was very cold/hostile) And the environment is very high school clique-ish. If you aren't one of the 'cool' people, you are deliberately left out. Hurtful gossip is insane. If you like rumors being spread about you, then this is the place for you (examples: one coworker said I hated kids because I didn't have any; another told others I was gay but I'm very straight). If you haven't met the same life accomplishments as everyone else, then you are excluded outright (and told to keep quiet about your own-I have a college degree, and one coworker told me I should 'shut up about it' when I mentioned it ONE time). This"
Branch Ambassador (Former Employee) says"Job didn't give any real means of advancement or the means to further your abilities. Goals were nearly impossible to meet and no rewards were given if you met them.Set hours6 day week"
Sales Manager (Former Employee) says"Going above & beyond gets zero recognition, & in fact - becomes the new minimum expectation every time. You will be overworked, underappreciated, & reminded you are all easily replaceable."
Repossession Specialist (Former Employee) says"Ahh...It was not a fun time for me working at Capital One Auto Finance, I was a victim of workplace harassment and bullying tactics from the managers that worked on the floor. Which resulted in write-ups leading to me being placed on a performance-based point system causing me to not hit monthly bonuses and be terminated from the company if I did not perform. You had unprofessional managers on a daily basis playing and supporting their favorite associates along with taunting you (if they didn't like you) OR looking to start scenarios/fights with you and then lie about it to cover themselves. It was horrible and I will never look back, I highly recommend anyone that is going through this similar situation to report all of the selected managers to human resourcess, immediately and contact an attorney. The managers that should have been terminated for their actions are still employed, unfortunately."
Vice President, Risk Management (Former Employee) says"Don’t bother. Dumb people struggling to run a stupid business model. Packed with imbeciles. They think they are smart, which is more dangerous than just knowing you’re not a real BankNoneIdiots in charge"
Customer Service Representative Auto Finance/Investing (Former Employee) says"Capital One will not tell you why you were terminated. I was a good hard working employee. Diversity and Inclusion is the moto of Capital One when the company is far from it.NothingEverything"
Collections Advisor (Former Employee) says"From firing people they don’t like, to taking advantage of workers, to having managers that talk about their agents’ personal lives with other agents they favour. The culture they ‘have’ and ‘encourage’ is all for show. Want to feel disposable, overworked, underpaid and suicidal? Go for Capital One!"
Senior Product Manager, U.S. Card (Former Employee) says"Cannot consistently execute anything, re-orgs constantly for no increased value. Does not promote women at the same rate as men. The company is full of smiling sharks."
Head of software and data engineering, Emerging new technology adoption (Current Employee) says"Not willing to participate in this discussion, it is unfair to talk about current employer and provide a feedback. This question should not be made mandatory."
Senior Coordinator of Partnership Elevations (Former Employee) says"At this company they make you believe that you matter , but it a lie the fire you like nothing and you a number there and cutting on employees and firing all the good agent it a who likes you better place"
Collections Coordinator (Former Employee) says"Managers are hard-hearted and callous towards employees. No support or training from them either. At All In Live conference, guest speakers spoke about identifying mental health, workplace inclusion and working collectively as a unified team, however, managers did not enforce ANY of the values the company seems to be so intent on building. If you don't fit in right away, it's a horrible working environment and you are made to feel like an outcast.Nice facilities and foodManagers are bullies"
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) says"this company has the worst management within several departments, the managers knock you down versus building you up DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY !!!!!"
Robert Brewer says"If you’re looking for customer service, don’t trust Capital One. Terrible customer service. These people don’t have a clue. I’m a retired banker with over 45 years in the business, bless their heart, they haven’t a clue. Guess they are too big to fail. Think I’ve heard that before. "
Don Giannico says"I called Capital One on Fri 9/18/20 to redeem my matured CD. Since my branch is closed due to Covid and the next closest branch is 1hr15min away I asked if they could send it electronically to my bank. They said no we have to mail you the check. It's about $90,000 so I asked if they could send it certified and they said they would. It is now over 4 weeks later and there is no sign of the check. I have called 5 times and every time I've had to wait a grueling 45 min-1 hour with a horrendous music loop that is like water torture. I don't say this to be dramatic I am serious. It is bad, really bad. Each time I call I have to explain the whole scenario and they invariably send me to a supervisor only for me to explain the whole thing again. On one occasion I spoke to a supervisor named Randy and on another occasion I spoke to a supervisor named Crae. Today I talked on the phone with an associate and she elevated it to Brian, then he elevated it to Mary and then she elevated it to Kevin. Each time in between I had to explain it again and then hold with the horrid music. They said they had stopped payment on the check and they would mail (they said they can't email it) out a lost check claim form for me to fill out and then review it. I've been waiting on this form for ten days and no sign of that either. Why am I having to wait for a form to fill out and for them to review and then start a long process of waiting all over when I wasn't the one who lost the check. They sent it out without any kind of tracking or signature required by the recipient. They're sending out massively large checks by first class mail with no idea if the checks will ever get there or any way to trace it. The supervisor Crae admitted that they are supposed to FedEx all checks over $50,000. I keep waiting and hoping someone will acknowledge how outlandish this is and cut the red tape and get me my money. By holding on to my money they are defrauding me out of $4 interest a day which is what my CD was making and thus far I have lost well over $100 in interest waiting plus an opportunity to deposit the money in Chase and get a $300 bonus on an offer that ends shortly. I am at my wits end. I desperately need this money to live on. I am a senior and it is most of my life savings. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME RESOLVE THIS HEARTWRENCHING PAINFUL SITUATION."

k p says"Traveling in another country.
wanted to login to my account but the only way to receive my verification code is through phone SMS. Since, I was in another country and not using the regular simm card, therefore I cannot receive my verification code through phone SMS. Simple issue, but capitalone in year 2020 technology cannot resolve this simple communication issue, because they refused.
Therefore, I cannot access my account when I needed it and cannot do what I wanted to do.
Tried to contact them but failed. Because their system is intentionally designed not to let u contact them.phone number not reachable.
No commonly social media or email to communicate.
Only way thru tweet. Explained everything but still they refused to help and don't care.
Capitalone new regulation, no tweet account no capitalone account allow to
access or remainn active!!!
Even with tweet account, capitalone refused to take care of small issue and intentionally refused customer access to their account.
So cannot access my own account
Capitalone = garbage bank"
David says"customer service is pathetically outsourced and amateurish 2weeks for a replacement card and they wanted to charge shipping"
Ms Grey says"My tax refund check was from BBVA Compass Bank. NORMALLY banks will cash their own checks. Some require that you have an account with them 1st. Others will just cash it as long as you have two forms of ID. I went into the compass branch in Lynwood, CA. First... the teller was rude as she made a ugly face when i gave her the check. (I guess she was baffled because the amount was more the she made in a year.) She asked if I had an account and I said no. She then went to whisper to another rude teller and came back to tell me that they would not cash it because I didn’t have an account with them. I informed her that it would not be a problem to open one. She then replied that the check was too much money as it was more the. $2500 and to try Walmart... I’ve never been so insulted by a financial institution AND I’ve never experienced a bank that would not cash their OWN banks check that a business account owner had the funds to cover! BBVA Compass bank makes up their own rules and should not be in business!!!"
Carol Tittman says"Have had checking, debit and credit card accounts with CapitalOne since September, 2018. In that time, FRAUD, obnoxious, disrespectful, mentally deranged, probably excons trying to rehabilitate, former drug antics, children, to try to communicate with at their call centers, pretty much all call centers with any business these days. Too much time to answer a question 2+2, hours, days, weeks, never obtaining what we, as consumers, called for in the first place. Too many escalations, having to repeat the same thing multiple times, knowing the information has been incorrectly input in their computer systems. I have had to dictate what should be entered on their computers very often to these call center people, who perceive themselves as PROFESSIONALS, what a joke!! Too much information out there with too many busy, busy, busy busy bodies having access the customers information, mega gossips. I recently have identified 2 banks and an insurance company playing with my accounts, SCREWING them up, if you will. There are many Federal Bureaus, Agencies we, as consumers, CAN and WILL report, complain to. Misusing our personal information is a Federal crime, punished by the law. CapitalOne is an on line bank, many drawbacks. I would NOT recommend banking with this bank, if you want any normalcy with banking, although most of them SUCK, have had accounts with many of the buggies. Keep reporting and eventually the Federal agencies will slap multi million dollar class action cases against these banks, as with Wells Fargo, currently ENJOYING a $142 million class action case. Unfortunately, the way of the world."
Deborah Serio says"The two stars are for costumer service. They are very nice and try to help you when you have a problem, but the dispute dept. and back office over the dispute dept is of no help at all . In fact I do not believe they even read the 25 pages of Documents I sent in to prove I did not receive what I paid for with the BBVA credit card. They make you wait 3 months for nothing at all if you are charged for a product you do not receive, or receive defective and unacceptable. Then they tell you there is nothing they can do about it so you go to other depts and they appeal it , when they do nothing about it it goes to the back office where they are supposed to be over the dispute dept, but they do nothing also. I doubt they even read my docs. Very upsetting process. My insurance co. made one phone call to the co. and settled it immediately. My money was returned with absolutely no help from BBVA. Stay far away from this card no matter how much money they offer you, they do not have your backs."
Nicholas Ogunye says"Capital One Bank really stinks for customer service. There are always long hold times with people transferring between departments, You can never seem to get your issue resolved on time. They lack true knowledge and expertise on how to resolve issues it seems. I will not recommend them to my dog. I am considering closing my account with them and moving my funds elsewhere. Capitol One Bank truly sucks poop!"
